I found this article on the App, written back in 2013.
“Nike is using some of its flagship products to continually challenge the preconceptions of sustainable design – for example, the new England football shirt is made of a fabric produced using recycled bottles.”
How are recycled bottles turned into fabric?
The rather complex process of converting used plastic bottles into useful polyester for the clothing industry.
This video is a little more detailed than the Nike one.
The Making App.
I jumped into the footwear section and learned about:
RAMIE
My Ramie lesson took me back to youtube for a look at the traditional methods of weaving Mosi ( fine ramie).
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2011 URL: http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/RL/00453 Description: Weaving of Mosi is a process involving harvesting, boiling and bleaching ramie plants, spinning yarn from the fibre, and weaving it on traditional looms. Weaving is transmitted in women-led family operations where mothers transmit techniques and skills to their daughters or daughters-in-law.
